Frequently asked questions

General

How do I know if my dog needs hearing protection?

Noise sensitivity is the leading cause of anxiety in dogs. Tell tale signs of anxiety in dogs are excessive panting, pacing, drooling, yawning, lip licking, trembling, low tucked tail, ears back, "whale eyes", and dilated pupils.

Why do dogs need hearing protection?

Our furry friends have much more sensitive hearing than us humans. Dogs are also susceptible to frequencies that we simply cannot hear.

How come my dog can still hear while wearing the ear muffs?

WoofWorks ear muffs are designed for 'passive decibel reduction', meaning they lower dangerous noise levels to safer, acceptable levels rather than completely eliminating noise. Skeptical? Try wearing a pair of ear muffs designed for humans and have a conversation with someone. The sound won’t be as loud as without the muffs, but you’ll still be able to hear and understand.

When should I use ear muffs with my dog?

Hearing protection should be used whenever your dog is uncomfortable. Common noisy activities include: Firework shows, thunder, grooming blowers, vacuuming, car and plane travel, construction, or even just parties next door. There are countless scenarios in which your dog could use some protection.

Fitment

What if my dogs head size is on the cusp between sizes?

It is often better to err in the direction of the larger size when debating between medium and large.

My dogs ears are too big/floppy and cannot fit fully inside the ear muff...

Some dogs with big and or floppy ears cannot fit their whole ear inside the ear cup. Folding floppy ears down against their head with the ear muffs over acts as another layer of protection. Position the ear muffs as best you can to create a seal against the ears or head.

How tight should I adjust the straps?

You should tighten the straps to the point in which the ear muffs cannot be shaken off. Making a tight seal between the ear pad and head/folded ear is optimal.

My dog won't keep them on very long. Why?

For some dogs it comes naturally. Others, need to get accustomed to wearing ear muffs. Following our video and in-depth guide is a sure fire way to set your dog up for success. It is rare that a dog doesn't get used to wearing them for duration when training is performed accordingly.

How do I tighten and loosen the ear muffs?

Sliding the buckles on both top and bottom adjust tightness and give you adjustability to fit different head shapes.
